Assignment #22 and #23:(Due Thursday, Dec 7)
- #22: Page 682-684: #1,2,4,5,7,8,10
- #23: Use Cabri Geometry II to trisect a line segment AB as
shown here:
Note that the segments AX, XY, and YB must be congruent and
should remain that way if you move point A or point B with the mouse, i.e. you
can't just draw the points X and Y on the line segment by hand! No credit will
be given if the points X and Y do not move accordingly as points A or B move.
Hints: Draw a segment AB with the Segment tool and label the end points
A, and B with the Label tool. Draw a line perpendicular to AB through
point B using the Perpendicular Line tool. Use the Point tool to
construct a new point above B that is on the line you constructed and use the Label
tool to label this new point C. Use the Circle tool to construct a
circle with center C and radius point B. Use the Point tool to
construct a point at the new intersection of this circle with the line and
label that new point D with the Label tool. Use the Circle tool
to construct a circle with center D and radius point C. Use the Point tool
to construct a point at the new intersection of this new circle with the line
and label that new point E with the Label tool. Draw the segment AE
with the Segment tool. Use the Parallel line tool to construct a
line through D which is parallel to AE and another line through C which is
parallel to AE. Use the Point tool to construct points at the point of
intersection of these parallel lines with AB. Use the Label tool to
label these new points X and Y. Finally, use the Hide/Show tool to hide
all of the circles, lines, and points in the figure except those shown in the
image above. Change to the Pointer tool and try dragging the points A
and B around. If you did everything properly the points X and Y should always
divide the segment into three congruent pieces. Finally use the Comment
tool to write your name, class, and assignment number on your work as I have
done in the figure above. Save your file to a floppy disk. Use your last name
for a filename. Hand in the floppy disk with your name written on the outside
of the disk.
